Julia Lazarus and I presenting our curated selection of short films and TIkTok videos titled “Curling Eyelashes: Feminisms of the Everyday” for the second edition of the festival.
The works in the selection question the seeming invisibility of patriarchal ideology.

At the time, video activist Kazım Kızıl had been arrested in İzmir during a demonstration held in protest of the 16 April 2017 constitutional referendum results in Turkey. Kızıl was jailed on the charge of “insulting the president.”

At the time, video activist Kazım Kızıl had been arrested in İzmir during a demonstration held in protest of the 16 April 2017 constitutional referendum results in Turkey. Kazım was jailed on the charge of “insulting the president.” Conference organizers and participants joined in on the hashtag campaign to make Kazım’s unlawful arrest visible.
